Story & Main Plot Summary

Welcome to Mesozoic Ignis, a dragon and dinosaur play-by-post alternate reality roleplay. Fear not, for no asteroid will come to this Earth, as in this alternate universe it misses the planet by the slimmest of chances. When the asteroid flies by the Earth, all on the planet will see it rush across the sky, but no sense of dread will overwhelm the creatures of this era. Instead, the stage will be set for you to play as a dragon or dinosaur in a world where humans will never come to be, and therefore never become the dominant species. In the centuries to come, this will leave dragons and dinosaurs to duke it out for supremacy over all other species.

The story begins at an unspecified time in the Mesozoic Era, just a month before the asteroid will be visible in the sky. The story of the site is yours to tell as you create your character and interact with other characters as you write. You may notice the dragons are from a rather popular franchise called How To Train Your Dragon, but you don't need to be a fan of the trilogy to play as these very unique dragons. Each species has a page dedicated to explaining how the dragon typically behaves, what it looks like, and what abilities it has. Dinosaurs also have a species post, but you may find dinosaurs are a bit less dramatic than the dragons. Don't worry, evolution is a crazy thing. You'll never know what adaptations, mutations, or hybridizations are around the corner; you may be surprised.

Is There a Word Count?

Yes. While not strictly enforced, please try to write at least 100 words per post. However the main rule is to have quality over quantity, as well as trying your best to meet the length of your partner's post. If you're new to roleplaying, there's a section in your character's biography that addresses OOC, which is you. It will let us know a few things about you, one of them being your skill level in writing. If you add a note saying you want to try to improve your writing, staff and seasoned members are more than willing to help you learn more writing skills.

How Much Fantasy Is Involved?

The dragons, by nature of their origin, are completely fantasy. However they have real-world limitations and were designed to be somewhat possible in real life in their franchise; nothing changes about them. The dinosaurs are the tricky part, as we try to keep our information as accurate as possible. However, since dinosaurs are extinct, it's much harder to get a clear view of them. So, we took many inspirations from games and media about their color, behavior, feathering, size, and put them together into what we think is the most accurate - but still interesting - way to make these dinosaur characters come alive for you.

Is There a Maturity Rating?

Proboards TOS dictates you must be 13+ to join the site, and doesn't support their platform being created for highly sexual use. All mating will be fade-to-black, with some implications allowed beforehand. As far as gore goes, that's up to you and what you're comfortable with. In the "Who's Who" section you can go into deeper detail about yourself and what you do/don't want to interact with in terms of gore, romance, ect.

How Active Is This Site?

We hope to grow into a decently active community. Posting at least once a week is expected. We understand the world isn't quite back to a stable place yet, but please make sure before joining that you can participate fairly regularly on the site.

A staff member will answer your question and then place it into the log so others can see it if they have a similar question. If your question needs more than a few words to be answered, please refer to the FAQ before asking a staff member in the discord. It will save time as it's much easier to find if the answer is already logged rather than waiting for a response.
